A BIT ABOUT THE MATERIALS I USE
What is the difference between stainless steel and aluminum? Which do you recommend?
- For jewelry it really depends on personal preference. If you like a more lightweight piece I'd recommend aluminum and if you'd prefer your jewelry to have some weight I'd recommend stainless steel.
- Aluminum is much more malleable and stainless steel will almost never be able to be pulled apart. If you're looking for a piece that will last through lots of wear and tear I'd recommend stainless steel, but if you normally take good care of your jewelry and are more on the careful side aluminum would work too. They are both body safe and can be worn in the shower or swimming and don't need much upkeep.
Read below for more information about the differences between the two:
Most of my pieces are made from your choice of stainless steel or aluminum.
All hardware is made with stainless steel unless otherwise specified. (o rings, etc.)
Other pieces that are made from anodized aluminum or plated brass will specify in the description of the piece.
If you have an allergy to any materials don't hesitate to ask any questions about what your piece is made of, just to be safe!
Some people's skin can have a reaction to aluminum causing a slight temporary discoloration on the skin (it can look dark/dirty), do not worry this is not an allergic reaction!
This discoloration is just caused by the PH balance in some people's skin, this can be solved by washing the piece and the area of your skin that has discoloration with soap and water. If the discoloration still continues after you've tried this I would recommend ordering your piece in stainless steel. This discoloration has nothing to do with the metal being inferior, but simply just the way your skin reacts with this metal.
Stainless steel may contain small traces of nickel, if you have a high nickel allergy please keep this in mind.
Both aluminum and stainless steel will not rust or tarnish or corrode, they can both be worn in water and are both considered to be hypoallergenic.
I try my best to use all stainless steel or aluminum materials, I will not use any materials made of nickel or any materials that are not body safe.
